We are halfway through the year and Cardio Tennis continues to draw excitement in the US as well as abroad.
Here are some of the Cardio Tennis highlights for 2008:
• Stadium court demos at the International Delray Beach Tournament, Tennis Channel Open and the Family Circle Cup with consumer demos at the Pacific Life Open and Davis Cup. Cardio Tennis on the Beach at the Sony Ericsson and the Beach Tennis Championships in Miami.
• International workshops in Canada and Turkey. Greece (July 2008)

A big welcome to the newest 178 Tennis Welcome Centers that have joined the program since the first of the year.

Public Relation Update:

The Sherry Group continues to do a great job in outreach with TENNIS messaging—to date more than 100 publications with 45,000,000 impressions. Sherry Group is also promoting the Top 50 Tennis Welcome Center Awards with a local & national media placement.

45 Pounds Lost in 90 Minutes
Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago recently hosted a Cardio Tennis extravaganza where 176 novice players borrowed racquets from the club and participated in their first ever Cardio Tennis clinic. After an hour and a half of striking forehands and backhands on the run, jumping to hit overheads, hopping over cones and shuffling through ladders, the participants burned an average of 900 calories each, and as a group shed about 45 pounds!

Tennis is the Fastest Growing Traditional Sport!
The SGMA just released the 2007 Sports & Fitness Participation Report, which shows that tennis participation
from 2000 to 2007 has increased significantly and is again leading traditional sports!
Over the seven-year period, tennis has seen a participation increase of 30.6%.
Tennis Only Traditional Sprot to GrowOther recent research in tennis shows more good news:
• Ball Shipments: up 15% annually from 2003 through 2007.
• NSGA Report: Tennis participation in 2007 rose almost 20% to 12.3 million participants.
• USTA/TIA Tennis Participation Survey:
25.1 million players is the highest since 1999, with a 15% increase in frequent play.
• American Sports Data Survey: Tennis increased 6% since 2000.
• New Sports Participation Partnership with TIA, USTA, SGMA, NGF, Outdoor Industry, and Snowsports Industry:
  Shows tennis increased 4% in 2007, with 16.9 million players.
• TIA/USTA Court Activity Monitor:
  34% of tennis players surveyed said they played more tennis in the last 12 months and 60% of facilities said new players
  had increased. Using the CAM measure, a total of 137 million courts were booked/used in 2007.
